Why You Should Be Using Vitamin C In Your Skin Routine

Dimitra Karagiannidi

Skin care offers a wide range of products, each with its own unique formula and are to target. It’s easy to get overwhelmed when designing your own personal skincare routine and feeling unsure what is essential for you. One of the best products to always take the time to use each day is vitamin c! It’s tried and true, with a variety of benefits that never go out of style.

We’ve heard time and time again how it is important to eat enough fruits and veggies for Vitamin C or to take a supplement. The benefits of this vitamin doesn’t stop there though - they extend to our skin and appearance!

What It Does

Smooth wrinkles

Vitamin C is a powerful and common ingredient in many anti-aging products. Some studies show that it can reduce the appearance of wrinkles when you use it for at least 12 weeks.

Target hyperpigmentation and redness

A 2017 review notes that vitamin C application has been shown to impede melanin production, the pigment responsible for skin color. This can help fade dark spots and general dullness.

The anti-inflammatory properties of vitamin C can also help reduce redness, creating a more even complexion. Reducing any discoloration and irritation leaves you with a skin clarity that you just can’t beat. Say hello to a beautiful, dewy glow!

Protect against sun damage

Did you know that sun damage is caused by molecules called free radicals? These atoms have a missing electron that searches for other atoms from which they can “steal” an electron, leading to significant damage to the skin.

But Vitamin C is rich in antioxidants! In this case, antioxidants protect healthy skin cells by “giving” these free radicals an electron, making them harmless to your skin and any potential sun damage.

Boosts collagen

As we age, our collagen production starts to slow. Collagen is a protein in your body that helps keep your skin firm. Applying vitamin c can help encourage new collagen to grow while also protecting and preserving the collagen you already have.

One of the amazing things about Vitamin C is that it is suitable for just about every skin type! Vitamin C is safe to use every day and while most commonly suggested for morning use it can be used in the evening as well! Just make sure you’ve cleansed your skin before applying and then let it work its magic.
