Aging is a natural part of life and nothing to fear. However, there are tips and tricks to keep your skin looking youthful and to protect against premature aging. They are simple yet effective, work them into your routine for a glow that you just can’t beat.
Wash Your Face
Wash your face with a cleanser every single day. It is highly recommended to wash once in the morning and once in the evening to rid your skin of any makeup, dirt, oil, and bacteria. While this may seem like the most obvious tip, it is the true foundation for success of healthy, glowing skin! When we neglect to wash our face we create a build up of excess oils and products that will clog our pores leading to breakouts and fine lines.
Use Natural, Clean Skin Care
Build a skin care regimen that is filled with natural, clean ingredients. Clean beauty products prioritizes the safety of ingredients and lowers the risk of using harmful chemicals that may lead to dangerous repercussions. Be sure to do your research when picking out your products and read the full ingredient list to know what you are putting on your skin!
Moisturize Daily
Think of how you feel when you are dehydrated - that’s exactly how your skin feels and reacts without proper moisture too. Dry skin not only appears older but will create more long lasting signs of aging as well. You’ll want a moisturizer that is rich in vitamins that will nourish your skin and create a barrier. Our Night Light cream is a great option as it’s filled with B vitamins and DMAE which reduces the appearance of hyperpigmentation and helps build collagen.
Utilize Retinol
Retinol is a must use ingredient to boost elastin and collagen in your skin - both crucial to anti-aging and keeping a youthful glow. Retinol is a powerful ingredient that is mainly used to treat and target fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots, hyper pigmentation, and uneven skin texture. Retinol also has an exfoliating effect on the skin’s surface that can help improve texture and tone. Learn more about Retinol and how to work it into your routine here.
Apply SPF Daily
A simple trick that goes a long way. Sun damage is one of the leading causes of premature aging for skin. Using an SPF (recommended SPF 30 and higher) each day will protect your skin against the harsh effects from the sun. Whether it's sunshine or clouds, SPF should be a necessary part of your daily routine.
Apply Products Gently
The process of application is also important in caring for your skin. That’s where applying products in an upward motion or gently patting into your skin comes into play. While this won’t promise overnight results as it hasn’t been studied enough - there is enough information to show that how we handle our skin, specifically certain areas, matters. Dr. Rachel Nazarian at Schweiger Dermatology Group says, "vigorous rubbing causes an inflammatory response underneath, which not only aggravates conditions like rosacea and cystic acne, but may also cause premature aging of the skin. Repeated rubbing also pushes skin into folds, which over time leaves etched-in wrinkles and lines on the face, similar to ones caused by repeated facial expressions.
When applying products to your face, be gentle and try to avoid any tugging and pulling. When working around your ends be sure to pat it in gently as the skin is thinner and more prone to reaction.
Focus Points
When we think of anti-aging tips for skin, we often think of our face and only our face. Yet one of the most vulnerable areas for fine lines and wrinkles are our neck, chest, and hands. These areas are just as impacted by environmental stressors and sun damage as the skin on the face. They also have thinner skin, making them more sensitive to a rapid decrease of collagen, affecting the skin’s overall elasticity.
A simple and quick solution to showing this area some extra TLC is to take what is left on your hands after applying your skin care and rub it gently onto your neck, chest, and back of your hands. In addition to this, exfoliating these areas and keeping them moisturized with lotion will help keep your skin smooth, glowing, and on par with your face.
Nourish Your Body
This tip doesn’t involve any skin care products, but it sure does impact it. What you put in your body has a direct impact on how you look, so consider giving your diet a face lift of its own. It is recommended to eat a diet high in dark leafy greens, berries and omega-3 fatty acids (think fish, nuts, and seeds). These nutrient rich foods have a surplus of benefits that will show from the inside out. Plus, don’t forget to drink lots of water! Health experts recommend drinking around half a gallon of water each day.
Beauty Sleep
Beauty sleep is real and we can’t recommend it enough. Experts say a full night’s rest is around 7-8 hours. When you sleep your body is hard at work expelling toxins, eliminating depleted skin cells, and creating new cells to take their place. So be sure to prioritize rest to care for both your body and skin!
